Hindi

Hindi is taught as a Second Language in the primary classes ie- I - IV. From class - V onwards children are allowed to choose their option for second language from Hindi, Malayalam, Arabic and Sanskrit as per their interest, so as to get ample time to master the language.
Children are advised to pursue the language they are comfortable with. 

Children who choose Hindi as a second language may choose any other language other than Hindi ie. Malayalam, Arabic and Sanskrit as their third language. It is mandatory that children learn Hindi as one of the subject (second language or third language ) till class VIII.

In classes IX & X students can opt Hindi as the second language from the available languages Malayalam, Arabic and Sanskrit.

Several activities and competitions are conducted such as Role play ,Recitation, Debate, Elocution, Extempore etc. to enhance and create interest among students in learning the language.

Sanskrit

Sanskrit is the easiest language and a high scoring subject for the students of all classes especially in Board classes. Knowledge of Sanskrit is highly respected by the academic community. Now Government of Indian is also giving more importance to this great Language.  Mastering the intricacies of Sanskrit grammar brings with it a great insight into language structures in general. Apart from the fun, learning Sanskrit can also help you understand the etymology of a lot of words in Indian and non-Indian languages and help the students for higher studies in Languages. 

At ISN, Sanskrit is introduced from class V onwards. Students of classes V to VIII can select Sanskrit as a second language or third language from Hindi, Malayalam or Arabic. This gives them ample time to master the language. In classes IX and X students can opt Sanskrit as second language from the available languages Hindi, Malayalam or Arabic.

Malayalam

In Indian School Nizwa, Malayalam is taught in classes V to X. The school has over 50% of the students from Kerala. The school conducts activities that do not diminish the importance of the mother tongue in the children and thus develop an interest towards the language. 

In classes V-VIII, students can opt for Malayalam, either as second language or third language as per the students’ interest.  In classes IX and X the subject can be opted as second language from the available languages like Hindi, Malayalam and Samskrit.

The school conducts learning activities to develop the creativity of the children through competitions in language and culture development. Students enthusiastically take part in various programs like quiz, speech, recitation, writing competitions. At ISN every year the Malayalam Department celebrates the formation day of Kerala state (“Keralapiravi”) with the help of the students and staff.

The school follows CBSE & NCERT curriculum and conducts tests and assessments as per the guidelines from the CBSE. Apart from this, frequent online tests with Google forms, and uploading hand written answer sheet in Goggle classroom, online portfolio maintenance are also carried out.

Keeping in mind the requirement of CBSE in the overall development of a student in languages, various activities are also conducted for the betterment and enhancement of speaking and writing skills of the students.

Arabic

In Indian School Nizwa, Arabic is taught from V to X grade and mainly gives admission to Indian students, however we also have some students from different countries like Egypt, Bangladesh, Sudan, etc. studying here. 
In classes V - VII Arabic is opted as either second language or third language as per the students’ interest.  In class VIII Arabic is opted as third language while in classes IX and X it can be opted as second language from the available languages like Hindi, Malayalam and Sanskrit. Various activities related to Arabic and different competitions are conducted to garner interest for the language. Students enthusiastically take part in various programs held at school. 

The school conducts periodic tests, half yearly and final examinations to assess the students. Apart from this, frequent online tests with google forms, google docs and other interesting tools are also conducted to encourage students in learning the language. Keeping in mind the requirement of CBSE in the overall development of a student in languages, various activities are also conducted for the betterment and enhancement of speaking and writing skills of the students.

Resources

Various teaching aids like audio visuals, specimens etc. are used in the day to day classroom teaching. Journals for all the subjects as well as around more than 1000 books are also available for reading in the library.
